Boredom is a negative emotion that is inherent in every person, probably. For some, boredom was a concomitant sign of a certain nobility, but for others it was an indicator of laziness.

Often they find pleasure in this, but someone cannot afford even a moment of boredom. This phenomenon is interesting for psychologists, but we often surrender ourselves to the power of myth, which here will be debunked.

Boredom myths

Boredom is only human. And it is true. Animals are not bored when they have satisfied their vital abilities. At rest, they are quite comfortable.

The boredom is always the same. And scientists distinguish normal and pathological boredom. In the first case, there is a natural reaction to a certain situation, and in the second, a person is in this state throughout his life. Non-situational and prolonged boredom is also common, which can lead to depression. It is at the beginning of it that the mood has not yet been suppressed, but simply the person loses interest in everything, even the most significant until recently.

In human civilization, boredom has always existed. Among the ancient Greeks, nothing of the kind was revealed, in the Middle Ages there was a phenomenon of accedia, a cross between lethargy, laziness, refusal to think actively. But for this it was supposed to feel a sense of guilt before the Almighty. The renaissance brought melancholy, but its source was not considered spiritual ailments, but quite physical diseases. Soon, the person got blues and spleen - boredom that tires. Since then, boredom and its forms have been firmly in our lives.

Boredom is an unkillable time. Boredom, according to this statement, is the result of a certain confusion that comes to a person who has done everything, satisfied all his needs and has received a little free time. This pattern works both at the private level (boredom of the unemployed or retired), and at the general social level. It was noted that those who work 8-9 hours a day are much more bored than peasants, whose day is scheduled by the minute, with sleep breaks. Psychologists believe that the ability to manage your time is an important age-related task - at the age of 8-10, a child must learn to find entertainment and activities for himself. However, this is an ideal idea, many have not yet learned how to manage time by the age of 80.

Boredom has nothing to do with being unclaimed. If a person's abilities are much higher than the situations of his life and his work and environment require, then he is quite expected to lose his absorption and engagement in the work process. In such a situation, you should expect the appearance of boredom, depression and apathy.

Boredom doesn't come from a lack of motivation. But those who work with personnel think differently - if a person is motivated, sees a clear goal, then he simply cannot waste time boredom. But there are times when you really don't see the point, despite clear goals, which is typical for office workers. Therefore, in such situations, boredom can be viewed as a manifestation of the general meaninglessness of actions.

When focused on a goal, boredom simply cannot manifest. In European society, a person began to receive much more free time, but not only this was the appearance of boredom. Today man is cut off from the traditional worldview. If earlier a person lived according to traditions, the way his ancestors lived, without looking for much meaning, today it turned out that everyone is invited to find their own individual goal. And without her it's generally hard to live. Many therefore choose someone else's goal, the one that is simpler and closer, and, quite logically, get bored at the same time, not realizing and not giving all the best mentally and physically.

Boredom is only deliberate. For many, it is natural to live in a daily routine without even realizing how boring it is? A person does not even seek to realize this, finding a bunch of arguments that this is life, that this is the case for everyone, that soon everything will change. It takes courage to realize your boredom, and a lot. On this occasion, Brodsky wrote: "Boredom is the exposure of the roots of being: pure, not covered by anything. It takes courage to withstand this, not to run away from it. When you are overcome by boredom, surrender to it. Boredom is your window to infinity of time, that is to your insignificance in it. This, of course, will not sound music to your ears; however, the sense of futility, the limited significance of your even the highest, most ardent actions is better than the illusion of their fruitfulness and the accompanying conceit. "

Boredom cannot be compensated for. It is possible, only it is necessary to treat not the symptoms, but the true causes. It is to heal, and not to try to compensate for boredom, without trying to understand what caused it. Today, society is full of mechanisms to compensate for boredom - this is the media with stories of endless horrors, disasters, alcohol, which frees the clamped subconscious, tourism, which allows you to divert attention. It is important for society that such compensation does not bear a destructive character, but that it is only temporary relief from it is the tenth thing, the person must deal with this if he wants to help himself.

Boredom cannot be expressed in numbers. In fact, there is even a boredom proneness scale. It consists of 28 points, with its help a person can self-describe his condition, understand how often and how deep his condition is.
